New Delhi: The Standing Committee on Barley has advised Facebook and Google executives to "follow the rules of the law" in order to prevent the spread of false news.

For the measures including prevention of the spread of false news on social websites and media and protection of the rights of the people, a Barley., Standing Committee has been set up for the Department of Communications headed by Cong.
On behalf of the group, 'Facebook' and 'Google' company officials were sent a 'summons' to appear in person to explain.Following this, Shivnath Thukral, Director General Policy, Facebook's India Division, and Namrata Singh, General Adviser, appeared before the Standing Committee.
Aman Jain, Head of Government Affairs and Public Policy for India, and Geethanjali Tukal, Legal Director, appeared for Google.
The Standing Committee advised them to ‘strictly follow the instructions of the Government and the orders of the court, under the new IT rules of the country’.

Meanwhile, the Twitter pages of some prominent personalities, including Union Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and Standing Committee Chairman Sasi Tharoor, were recently blocked.
